AT&T Motivate 2 features and review
Display
The AT&T Motivate 2 features a 6.5" LCD display with HD+ resolution, a common size for entry-level smartphones today. Despite its entry-level status, the phone's display offers a smooth and responsive experience, making it easy to scroll through apps and navigate the phone without any issues.
It has scratch-resistant glass to prevent scratches from our daily usage.
The screen display is bright and clear but lacks sharpness. The size is also sufficient to display each installed application in a decently large format, comfortable for our eyes.
Design
The AT&T Motivate 2 boasts a comfortable size and weight, making it easy to hold and use for extended periods. Its compact design allows for effortless one-handed operation, whether you're reading, watching videos, streaming content, browsing photos, playing casual games, or performing everyday phone tasks.
The phone features a waterdrop notch design for its front camera, which seamlessly integrates into the display without compromising viewing space. On the bottom edge, you'll find a headphone jack for wired audio connectivity, a microphone for clear voice calls, a USB Type-C port for data transfer and charging, and a speaker for delivering audible sounds.
The left side of the phone houses a SIM card tray for inserting or removing SIM and SD cards, while the right side features power and volume buttons for convenient control of the device. At the top, you'll find a noise-canceling microphone that ensures your voice is heard clearly. during calls.
The back of the phone sports a fingerprint sensor, a notable feature for an entry-level smartphone. This sensor provides a secure and convenient way to unlock your phone and protect your data.
The AT&T Motivate 2 comes in a single color option, Maritime Blue. The color appears solid and has a matte finish that helps resist fingerprints. However, under direct light, fingerprints may become slightly visible.
Camera
The AT&T Motivate 2's camera setup consists of a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies and a rear-facing camera with an 8MP sensor, LED flash, and HDR capabilities. The phone can record videos at up to 1080p FHD resolution.
While the camera performance is adequate for everyday tasks, the image quality may require some editing if you plan to share your photos or videos on social media platforms.
The phone's camera app offers various shooting modes and settings to help enhance your photos, but you may need to adjust the exposure, brightness, and contrast to achieve the desired results.
Accessing the camera is straightforward. You can launch the camera app directly from the home screen or by quickly pressing the power button twice. This quick access feature ensures you can capture those fleeting moments without missing a beat.
Overall, the AT&T Motivate 2's camera system provides a decent balance of features and performance for an entry-level smartphone. While it may not rival the prowess of high-end flagship devices, it offers sufficient capabilities for casual photography and videography.
Storage
The AT&T Motivate 2 comes equipped with 32GB of internal storage, which may seem ample at first glance. However, with regular use, this storage can fill up quickly, especially when considering the pre-installed factory applications and battery usage data that occupy a portion of the internal memory.
To address this storage limitation, the phone offers expandable storage via a microSD card slot, allowing you to add up to 128GB of additional storage. However, the microSD card is not included in the phone's packaging, so you'll need to purchase it separately.
Given the potential storage constraints, it's advisable to prioritize using lightweight versions of applications on this phone to conserve internal memory.
This approach can help extend the device's usability and ensure that you have sufficient space for your essential files and applications.
Performance
A notable advantage of the AT&T Motivate 2 is its responsive and fast fingerprint sensor, offering convenient and secure unlocking. The phone runs on Android 11 and is equipped with 3GB of RAM, providing a smooth user experience for everyday tasks.
However, the processor choice, Mediatek MT6761V/WE, is primarily found in lower-end smartphones, reflecting its processing speed of only 1.8 GHz.
This limitation suggests that the AT&T Motivate 2 may not be the best choice for those seeking a device capable of handling demanding activities like high-end gaming, video editing, social media live streaming, or intensive browsing. If such activities are a priority, consider opting for a smartphone with a more powerful processor.
Connectivity
The AT&T Motivate 2 provides 4G and 3G connectivity, allowing you to stay connected to mobile data networks. As a prepaid phone, you'll need to activate an AT&T data plan to access cellular data services. Alternatively, you can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots for internet access.
For convenient file transfers, the phone offers USB Type-C connectivity and Bluetooth technology. This enables you to easily transfer files between devices or enjoy music playback through external speakers. Additionally, the phone's integration with Google services provides access to GPS navigation, further expanding its functionality.
Battery
AT&T stated that Motivate 2 comes with a bigger battery, but it only has a 3500mAh battery. AT&T claims a standby time of up to 14 days and a talk time of up to 16 hours. However, as you know, when it is written "up to," the numbers do not describe the actual days or duration. In our opinion, it is better to charge it every night since this device takes 160 minutes to fully charge.
There are no wireless or fast charging features, so if you plan to take it outside, make sure the battery is fully charged.
Is the AT&T Motivate 2 a good phone?
If you only need it for making calls and sending messages, this smartphone will suffice. Its design and display are not bad to carry around either.
AT&T Motivate 2 is offered at $49, which, in our opinion, is still a reasonable price for the features it offers.
